Our Latest Type 2 Diabetes Experience Exchange – Midland, ON

Two hours north of Toronto, on the shores of Georgian Bay we hosted another Type 2 Diabetes Experience Exchange.

Hosted at Operation Grow in Midland, we brought together 40 engaged and concerned stakeholders for a conversation on Type 2 Diabetes. This 3 hour evening event included an interactive cooking class and an in-depth discussion on the systemic, social and economic issues of the disease.

For dinner one of our T2DXX contributors, Chef Jamie Smye prepared a delicious 3 course meal. Jamie spoke to his own journey with Type 2 and the dietary choices he has found that work for him. He also demonstrated that anyone can cook a savoury and sweet meal that is Type 2 sensitive. We even had cheesecake!

The conversation was an extensive roundtable where persons living with Type 2 Diabetes, their caregivers and regional healthcare practitioners considered the hardships that are inherent in managing the disease. The following graphic illustrations were developed during the event by Erica Bota of ThinkLink Graphics and capture our meeting.

We invite you to view these pieces and reflect on what images and statements resonate with you. Are there parts that are similar to your experience? What is missing for you? Join the conversation and share with us on Facebook.
